It is almost Thanksgiving, which is usually a time to reflect all of our blessings and focus on what we are thankful for, but for many, this is a time of loneliness and hardship. How can someone switch gears if they feel like the whole world is toppling down on them?
If this is you or someone you know, there is hope. One option is to try and retrain your brain so that you can make it something that is tolerable, if not even enjoyable for you. No matter what is happening in your life right now, if you are stuck in a dark, lonely and stressful place, or just dreading time with a chaotic family, chances are, your brain is so used to a negative pattern that you feel as though you can’t break free. Here is a visual example, think of your brain like a connect-the-dots that forms a set of train tracks. Your particular thinking patterns have connected those dots, forming a solid line, a sturdy track that is almost indestructible. It’s an automatic, repetitive way of negative thinking that comes naturally because it was trained too. So, in order to even stand a chance at turning your thoughts around, you have to de-rail that train.
This task is not easy, not only will it take determination and strength, but you have to completely retrain your neurons to do something totally different, which can literally bust up that train track. But how does someone alter their negative thinking patterns and keep them consistent for a positive change? It takes constant awareness and repetition….and believing in it from your heart.
Make a list of at least 5 things and post it on your fridge and look at them at least 3 times a day. Set your phone alarm if you need too, mark it on your calendar or tell a friend/family to remind you every single day. This is your gift to yourself and you deserve it. Try to focus solely on positive thoughts when you look at that list and I encourage you to reach out and share your thoughts with others if you can. If you want to, write each one on a post it note and put them all around where you live, your car, where you work, etc. Follow power of positivity on Facebook, find an app for meditation or positive daily reminders, journal your positive thoughts, etc. Retrain your brain with positivity and de-rail that train!
YOU ARE WORTHY because God and I, are so incredibly thankful for you. If you find yourself struggling, please don’t ever hesitate to ask for help. I would love to meet you, talk with you and be a support for you through these hard times. Please, come share your story with me and we can de-rail the train together.
